Reading Prices

Understand how prices are sourced, validated, and what the freshness indicators mean.

How Prices Are Sourced

All prices in GetGas come from community reports submitted by users physically at a gas station. When a report is submitted:

  1. It enters a pending state
  2. The community votes on its accuracy (approve or flag)
  3. Once approved, it becomes the current price for that station and fuel type

Price Freshness

AgeIndicatorReliability
Under 6 hours● FreshHigh — likely accurate
6–24 hours● RecentModerate — prices may have shifted
Over 24 hours● StaleLower — verify before driving
⚠️
Prices can change during the week
The DOE updates official pump price ceilings weekly (Tuesday). Prices in GetGas reflect the latest community report, which may not yet match the new official price.

Scanning Price Boards

Use your camera to scan a station's price board and submit a report in seconds.

How to Scan

1
Tap the Scan button
The orange camera button in the center of the bottom navigation bar. You must be at or near a gas station for the GPS check to pass.
2
Frame the price board
Hold your phone steady and point the camera at the station's price display. Make sure all fuel types and prices are visible in the frame.
3
Review and confirm
GetGas extracts prices from the image. Review the detected values, correct any misreads, and tap Submit.
4
Earn GP
Once your report is approved by the community, you'll receive GP Points. Your first approved report earns a bonus.
📍
GPS verification
GetGas checks that you are within a reasonable distance of the station when submitting. This prevents fake or incorrect reports from users who aren't physically present.

Tips for Better Scans

  • Scan in good lighting — avoid shooting directly into the sun
  • Keep your phone steady and avoid motion blur
  • Make sure the full price board is in frame
  • If OCR misreads a price, you can manually correct it before submitting

Saved Favorites

Bookmark your most-visited stations for quick access and price drop alerts.

Adding a Favorite

Tap the heart icon on any station card or detail page to save it. Your saved stations appear at the top of the Home list and in Account → Saved Stations.

Price Drop Alerts

When a new approved price report drops the price at a saved station, GetGas sends you a notification so you know when to fill up.

💡
Earn 15 GP for your first favorite
Saving your first station completes the "Save a Station" mission and awards 15 GP.

What are GP Points?

GP (GasPower) Points are GetGas's reward currency. Earn them by contributing to the community — the more you help, the higher your rank.

Why GP Points Exist

Accurate, up-to-date fuel prices require active contributors. GP Points incentivize users to submit reports, complete daily missions, and stay engaged — which keeps the data fresh for everyone.

Points accumulate over your lifetime on the platform and determine your badge rank and reputation score.

Earning GP

GP can be earned through price reports, completing missions, maintaining streaks, and referring friends.

From Price Reports

Every approved price report contributes to your lifetime report count, which unlocks milestone GP bonuses. The more reports you submit and get approved, the more GP you accumulate.

Daily GP

Your Today stat on the GP tab tracks how many points you've earned today. This resets at midnight and motivates daily contribution habits.

Task Missions

One-time tasks (like choosing an avatar, setting your name, or making your first report) award GP on completion. See Daily Missions for the full list.

Daily Missions

Missions are goal-based challenges that reward GP on completion. They range from easy onboarding tasks to advanced reporting milestones.

Mission Categories

CategoryDescription
EasyOnboarding and first-time actions (profile, first report, first favorite)
MediumModerate engagement (5 reports, 3-day streak, 5 saved stations)
HardHigh-commitment milestones (25, 50, 100 reports)

Streaks

A streak tracks how many consecutive days you've opened GetGas. Reaching a 3-day streak awards +40 GP and keeps you in the habit of checking prices daily.

🔥
Don't break your streak
If you miss a day, your streak resets to 1. Open GetGas even briefly on days you're not reporting to keep your streak alive.

Badges & Levels

Your total GP determines your badge rank. Badges are permanent — you never lose a badge you've earned.

How It Works

  1. Go to Account → Share GetGas or the referral section in the GP tab
  2. Copy your unique referral link or share directly via WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.
  3. When a friend opens GetGas through your link, a pending referral is created
  4. Once they complete their first action (first report or mission), the referral activates
  5. You receive +25 GP per activated referral, claimable from the GP tab
🎁
Track your referrals
The GP tab shows your pending invites, how many have activated, total claimed GP, and your conversion rate.

Platform Overview

GetGas is a real-time fuel price product built for people who need fast, practical answers at the point of decision.

Product Mission

The mission of GetGas is to make fuel pricing more transparent and more usable in real time. In product terms, that means translating scattered market data, brand data, and local observations into a live map of actionable pricing.

GetGas should remain utility-first. Users should open the app because it saves them time and money. Reward mechanics are important, but they should support the product habit rather than replace it.

Core Product Pillars

1
Immediate savings utility
Actionable station discovery. The user should get useful pricing context within seconds, not after a long onboarding or research process.
2
Reliable local data
Trust. Every displayed price should carry an implicit promise that the app has done its best to source, validate, and timestamp that information responsibly.
3
Community-powered freshness
Coverage. Community reporting and verification let GetGas keep local station pricing more current than static bulletins alone can provide.

Community Contribution Loop

The ideal loop is simple: the user opens GetGas for personal utility, notices a stale or missing price, submits or confirms an update in seconds, and improves the experience for the next driver. Rewards should reinforce that loop rather than create behavior that exists only to farm points.

🌐
Market coverage
GetGas is currently framed around two major operating markets: the Philippines and the United States. This gives the product both an immediate local use case and a larger expansion narrative.

What is GTX?

GTX is the proposed ecosystem token of GetGas — the ownership, coordination, and incentive layer built on top of the GP contribution system.

GTX's Role

If GP is the measurement layer, GTX is the ownership layer. GTX should represent durable network advantage, not just a payout mechanism.

⚠️
What GTX should not become
GTX should not become a simple payout token where the only rational behavior is to claim and sell. That model is extractive and undermines the long-term value of both the token and the product.

What GTX Represents

Holding GTX should matter because it improves a user's future position in the ecosystem through:

  • Staking effects — Stake GTX to improve your GP earning power multiplier
  • Competitive roles — Stake to compete for Station Captain roles in your area
  • Governance rights — Vote on reward parameters, market expansion, and product changes
  • Long-term upside — Future revenue-linked rights as the network grows
💡
Key GTX principle
Users should earn because they contribute, but they should hold because GTX gives them more future benefit than immediate exit. Selling GTX should feel like giving up future advantage.

GP → GTX Relationship

GP measures contribution. GTX translates that contribution into ecosystem ownership. The two layers are intentionally separate.

Why the Separation Matters

GP allows GetGas to measure effort continuously while keeping actual token emission tightly controlled. Without this separation, every action becomes a direct source of token sell pressure.

Epoch-Based Distribution

The recommended structure is epoch-based. Users earn GP during a week or month through approved reports, verifications, check-ins, streaks, and other validated actions. At the end of the epoch, GP determines a user's relative share of the GTX pool for that period.

User GTX share = (User Eligible GP ÷ Total Eligible GP) × Epoch GTX Pool

GP Design Principles

Design AreaRecommended ApproachReason
EpochsWeekly or monthly accountingCreates predictable distribution windows and avoids continuous leakage
DecayReset most epoch GP, carry over a small remainderPrevents permanent dominance by early users
QualityReward accuracy more than volumeImproves the data network, not just activity counts
Soft capsDiminishing returns rather than hard shutoffsKeeps users motivated while making farming inefficient

GP Earning Rules

  • Most GP should be awarded on approved or consensus-confirmed actions
  • Raw submission GP should be small so spam is not profitable
  • Diminishing returns slow down farming after a healthy daily zone
  • Lifetime GP and epoch GP are tracked separately
  • Quality and reputation influence earning efficiency

Sustainability Model

How GetGas keeps the GTX economy healthy long-term through controlled emission, vesting, and demand-side utility.

Controlled Emission

GTX is distributed from a fixed epoch pool rather than through open-ended emissions. This allows app activity to grow while token output remains policy-controlled.

Vesting & Claim Throttling

A large share of earned GTX should vest rather than arrive liquid at once. A starting structure of 70% locked / 30% claimable is one practical point. Additional claim-rate throttles can smooth market pressure further.

Eligibility Caps

Per-user eligible GP caps and epoch pool caps are essential. These ensure the contribution economy cannot be dominated by one account, one farm, or one whale.

Reward Flywheel

Users contribute fresh prices → data quality improves → the app becomes more useful → more users rely on GetGas → more usage creates more contribution opportunities → GP measures that activity → a fixed GTX pool translates part of that network effort into strategic token participation.

Risk & Guardrails

Failure ModeGuardrailExpected Result
FarmingDiminishing returns, approval weighting, cooldownsHonest contribution becomes more efficient than spam
Whale capturePer-user cap and eligible GP ceilingDistribution stays fairer and less fragile
Instant dumpingVesting plus claim throttlingShort-term token shocks are reduced
Weak demandStaking, rank, governance, future revenue rightsGTX has structural reasons to remain held
🚀
Closing view
GetGas already has a strong base because it solves a real-world consumer problem. GP and GTX can strengthen that base if they remain disciplined. GP should measure contribution. GTX should remain scarce, useful, and strategically important.

Reporting Prices

Price reports are the backbone of GetGas. Learn what makes a good report and how to submit one correctly.

What to Report

Report the current pump price displayed on the station's price board. Include all fuel types visible — the more complete your report, the more useful it is to other drivers.

Accuracy Guidelines

  • Only report prices at stations you are physically present at
  • Report prices exactly as shown — don't round or estimate
  • If you're unsure about a price, leave that fuel type blank rather than guessing
  • Do not submit reports for stations you drove past at speed
⚠️
False reports affect your reputation
Consistently inaccurate or rejected reports will lower your reputation score. Repeated abuse may result in reports being deprioritized in the approval queue.

Approval System

GetGas uses community validation to ensure only accurate prices are published.

How Approval Works

When you submit a price report, it enters a pending state. Other users can then vote:

  • Approve — The price looks correct
  • Flag — The price seems wrong or suspicious

Once a report reaches sufficient approvals, it becomes the live price for that station and fuel type. Reports with too many flags are rejected.

Your Report Status

View submitted reports in Account → My Reports. You'll be notified when a report is approved or rejected.

Reputation

Your reputation score reflects how trusted your reports are.

How It's Calculated

Reputation starts at 10 and increases by 4 points for each approved price report. It is capped at 100. Rejected reports do not reduce your reputation but do not increase it either.
